Larger Van Conversions
Over the years we have commissioned many bespoke larger van builds and always thrived on the process. A couple of years ago we did take a step back from taking on larger builds due to the smaller Campervans popularity rocketing.
Now that we have a good handle on the smaller vans and we are really in our groove with that we feel that we can properly invest our time in the larger vans too! We have come up with a design that will be rolled out alongside our 7 smaller van conversions.
I went out designing this Camper with my family (2 adults 3 kids) and lifestyle in mind but I believe it's such a versatile design that it would suits many lifestyles because of the great benefits it provides.
We would love to offer a full bespoke service on all bigger vans but unfortunately it's not as easy as that. We can alter and add items to this current design but we can't offer a complete redesign. Please dont hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
The van below is Mercedes-Benz Sprinter MWB but we can carry this conversion out on Volkswagen Crafter, Peugeot Boxer and Ford Transit.
Design
We created The Alpine Conversion with space, flexibility and practicality in mind.
We wanted this Campervan to be able to sleep at least 4 people (more can be added!), this is achievable by adding the RIB 86 Altair seat/bed which also doubles up when laid flat and creating a lounging area. With all the added over head storage and garage space this gives the ability to be able to store away all the items necessary for a longer trip or just a trip to the beach.
Materials
The materials in this build are really important to the overall feel of the Campervan. The kitchen units and cupboards are all made from Birch ply with our popular Eco handles and Bamboo worktop to keep this within our Eco goal.
Although carpet lining has its uses, we wanted to try and avoid it as much as possible. This means that both sides and ceiling have been made from lightweight 9mm laminated ply to create this clean fresh feeling. The added pin stripe grooves creates depth.
The garage storage area is made from Hexa ply to be able to cope with the knocks and bangs from all equipment.
Equipment
We wanted to avoid the use of gas on board so that it can be off grid but still maintain the essential equipment.
Wallas Duo diesel hob/heater - This is great option if you have the extra space in a van build. It provides a twin hob running completely on Diesel but also gives you a thermostatic controller to warm your Campervan up.
230W Solar and 200Ah Lithium battery - Including hook up ability and engine charging! This gives loads of power to keep you off grid for weeks. Adding a 240v Inverter is also possible.
65 Litre 12v compressor Fridge - The little bit extra capacity as appose to our 50l ensures you plenty of cool refreshments and cold food storage.
Water/Shower system - 28 litre fresh water bottle supplying rear shower point and sink.
Fixed bed - This creates a 6ft wide x 4.6ft wide bedwhich is bigger than most of our smaller Campervans beds (side flares can be added to increase bed length).
What's inside The Alpine?
Full Off Grid Charging System - 200Ah Lithium battery, Victron Orion DC to DC 30A charger, Victron 240v to 12v 1 battery charger. Wired into 2 x 12v sockets 2 x USB sockets and 230W double solar panel system with Victron regulator (115W each panel)
Full side panels and insulation - Foil back 8mm Thermoliner (thermo-acoustic sheeting) and Dacron. Full 9mm laminated ply side and roof panels fixed in selected colour.
Full cabinetry - Kitchen unit passenger side to house Wallas Diesel hob/heater and built in recessed sink, 65L 12v fridge, cutlery draw and plenty of storage space. Made from birch ply throughout. (other materials available)
Over head lockers - Storage to run full length down drivers side and half length passenger side to match kitchen units. Fitted with door stays for easy access and full length LEDs fitted underside of each unit.
Windows - 1 x opener 1 x fixed and barn door pair in privacy tint.
Curtains - Full set black out curtains fitted to each window.
Flooring - 3 piece 12mm Birch ply, 3mm foil back underfloor insulation. Covered in Altro industrial strength vinyl.
Water system - 28L fixed fresh water bottle, external shower and fill point, recessed sink, 12v CAN cold water tap, 12v Fiamma water pump.
Fixed rear bed platform - Full width metal framed bed to create a comfortable sleeping space for 2 people, including 4 inch foam and basic bed upholstery.
Garage side units - 2 large size side units in the rear to house water system on passenger side and charging system drivers side. Also creating extra storage space. Made from standard laminated ply.
Seat/bed - RIB Altair 86cm. A top-of-the-range 2-seater TUV approved bed with headrests and 2 x shoulder belts. Available in a choice of fabric vinyl or leather finishes.
