6 overlooked campervan conversion essentials

You’re thinking of converting your campervan. Great! But how do you turn your campervan from a basic conversion into an all singing, all dancing home on wheels?

We’ve put together our list of the top campervan conversion essentials, so you’ll have everything you need for your next trip.

Whether it’s a short one-night trip or a week-long get away, with these extras in your van you’ll wonder how you’d have coped without them.

This list won’t include things like seats, hobs and sinks – we like to think they’re pretty much a given and are included in our standard packages!

Plus you can check out our other articles on how to choose the best of these items.

What we’ve listed here are those often-overlooked essentials that will make life in your campervan conversion so much easier.

So, in no particular order, here are Taylored Campervan Conversion’s top five campervan conversion essentials:

Heating

Either a Propex HS2000 or a planar diesel heater are great options for providing campervan heating, dependent on your requirements.

Living in England means dealing with ever-changing weather conditions, so having a heater at the ready means holidaying whatever the weather – win-win!

With great new technology, it also means they run on a very small amount of gas or diesel, so no need to constantly watch your fuel level.

Both our recommended heaters are normally positioned under the van with a fixing bracket securely bolted into the chassis.

The underslung tank which we recommend using for the HS2000 heater means reducing the space taken up by a gas canister inside your van. This can then also be used for cooking inside the van and BBQ attachment outside.

A planar diesel heater uses fuel from the tank already on board your van, meaning no need to worry about taking up more valuable space in your camper.

Swivel seats

A quick way to increase the seating capacity in your campervan’s living space! With the table positioned nicely between your swivel seats and the rear seats, you can create a great eating area.

These come as singles or doubles and are self-levelling, meaning they’re actually comfortable to sit on.

Our swivel seats run on a low friction system meaning they’re easy to rotate and have an optional solid floor plate and carpet, so you don’t lose that lifesaving under-seat storage.

Our Campervan Conversions

Wind out awning

Here at Taylored Campervans, we offer either the Fiamma F45 or the Thule Omnister awning. Both allow you to create an outdoor space attached to your camper.

You can dine al fresco when the weather’s right or use your awning to provide a little shade in hot conditions. There’s also the option of adding walls to make the area private and safe for younger children.

If you prefer a full drive-away awning, we can also supply multi-fit rails to allow attachment to your campervan.

Solar panels

We’ve all seen David Attenborough on our TVs warning of the impact of climate change.

Everyone needs to do their bit, and campervan solar panels are a great, eco-friendly solution for providing that extra bit of power.

They’ll charge even on a dull day and, most importantly, provide enough charge to keep your fridge running all day. Well, you wouldn’t want a warm beer, would you!

Having a solar panel on your campervan conversion also gives you that extra bit of freedom to go exploring without depending on an electric hook-up.

Roof bed

Adding a bedboard to your pop-top means an extra place to rest your head, or even two heads if you have a family.

It’s easily stowed up and away whilst the pop-top is up, meaning no impact on your head height whilst using the lower part of your camper.

Also, adding a bedboard can provide a bit of extra storage for bags, shoes and anything else you don’t want taking up valuable space on the lower floor when you’re away.

Blackout curtains or blinds

Curtains and blinds are something which may get forgotten about until the moment it gets dark outside and you want to close yourselves away to enjoy an evening in your cosy campervan.

These provide essential privacy along with a great sleeping environment with no worries of an early wake-up call!

Taylored can supply curtains in either a choice of black or silver or bespoke window blinds in a variety of colours.
